Corso di Laurea Magistrale Interateneo in Geografia e Scienze Territoriali (LM-80)

The course aims to provide theoretical and methodological tools to critically reflect and develop skills on the issues of urban development in the era of climate change, with particular attention to the dimensions of social justice.

At the end of the course, students are expected to have acquired an in-depth knowledge of the debate on human and non-human life forms in planetary urbanization and to be able to develop their own response to the topic of how to live climate change.

At the same time it is expected that this knowledge can be translated into public engagement and dissemination activities.

The laboratory intends to provide sociological knowledge on general interdisciplinary issues relating to planetary urbanization, social and spatial inequalities and with specific attention to the typologies of living in contexts of the global North.

The laboratory includes the following activities.
1- Frontal lessons. In this part, the sociological vocabulary necessary to address the issues of the Green city and the just city will be reconstructed.
2- Laboratory activities: the students will work in class, with the support of the teacher, on case studies of adaptation and response to climate change situations from the point of view of developing an informed and competent public debate. To do this, these laboratory activities will lead students to produce texts, events or digital material relating to the theme of the laboratory and which will be subject to evaluation.

The Laboratory consists of 30 hours of lessons (3 CFU).

The frontal lessons will be accompanied by activities of analysis and collective discussion of documents and data of various kinds. Active and constant participation of male and female students is therefore required.

The laboratory does not require a mark out of thirty, but only the certification of passing the laboratory.

To successfully complete the laboratory, you must:1) actively attend at least 80% of the lessons; 2) carry out the laboratory activities scheduled each week (for example, reading and synthesis of texts and documents); 3) prepare a text, plan an event or develop digital material on one of the teaching themes, which will be subject to evaluation (specific details on these works will be provided during the first lesson).

Each lesson includes an introductory explanation (lasting one hour) on the various aspects inherent to teaching. If foreign students are enrolled, this explanation will be given in English.

The rest of the lesson involves carrying out some individual and group activities, which can be carried out in Italian or English, depending on the preferences of the individual students.
